What is your love story?

By a simple twist of fate, we moved to the same city on the same day. She moved to St. Paul, MN from Medellin, Colombia and I moved from Washington, D.C.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

I wanted to pick a destination that neither of us had ever visited. The Cocora Valley is a magical place just outside of Salento, Colombia. It has some of the world's tallest palm trees and I thought they were a perfect metaphor of how long and beautiful our love can be with some care and effort.

What is your proposal story?

For the proposal, I arranged a ten-mile guided hike that took us across harrowing, Indiana Jones-style wood bridges, through a harmonious hummingbird sanctuary and to some of the world's tallest palm trees located in the Cocora Valley in Colombia. I had recently purchased a new camera and told my now-fiancee that we would be meeting a photographer that would give me a brief lesson on how to take the best photos of the Cocora Valley. With the trees bearing witness, we posed for some silly "lost tourist" pictures with our awesome flytographer Juan. Much to her surprise, I pulled out a watercolor postcard and proceeded to deliver the greatest marriage proposal speech in the history of the Spanish language. Sheer hyperbole and basic mispronunciations aside, she loved it and said "yes."
