Jorge's Proposal Story in Tulum

What is your love story?

It’s been 10 years and we’ve been high school sweethearts ever since. We’ve gone through countless adventures and hope to have more in the future. There’s honestly no one else I’d rather share experiences with. This all began with us being on the same cross country team where we became best friends. Since then I’ve known that our love for one another would last a lifetime.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

I chose Tulum because it was a dream destination of my now fiancé. It’s a place where she’s always wanted to visit and explore.

What is your proposal story?

The proposal went amazing! She was completely unaware of what was about to happen and at the moment she turned around and saw me on one knee, I just couldn’t have asked for a better reaction, it was simply magical.

Damian & Aurela's Proposal Story in Tulum

How did you meet?

Friends/Family

What is your love story?

Started dating at 19 and survived many hardships, including being trapped in an apartment through COVID in a new city with no friends or family. She's always stuck by my side and been the best support. 5 years into our relationship, we are different people than when we started but there's no one I'd rather spend my life with.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

I was unfamiliar with Mexico before this so we asked our photographer for suggestions. She chose the most beautiful and romantic spot - Cenote Cristalino

What is your proposal story?

Told her to be ready in the morning for a 'birthday surprise', showed up to the cenote and pretended we were going for a birthday/vacation photoshoot. Started the shoot and once I was given the signal from our photographer, I got down on my knee and popped the question. Completed our shoot and spent the rest of the morning hanging out in the cenotes and swimming. This was a great way to relax and enjoy the big moment.

Hosni & Jackie's Proposal Story in Tulum

How did you meet?

Work

What is your love story?

Jackie was a new teacher in our school. I’m a 5th grade teacher and she was hired as a 4th grade teacher. Her classroom was next door to mine. As I always do, I offered to support and help her in her first few weeks, as I do with any new teacher. As we slowly began to get to know each other, I realized that she was a special person and had all the qualities I had been looking for. I had not dated in quite awhile because I gave up on it and found it exhausting. Her beautiful personality motivated me and woke me up…I decided to ask her out. She said NO! She said she liked me but didn’t want to get involved with a co-worker because of gossip or awkwardness of things go wrong. I was persistent and asked her to trust me. She did and the rest is history :)

What made you choose this proposal destination?

I think Tulum is paradise with its soft white sand, palm trees, and the beautiful color of the ocean. We love the culture and the kindness and warmth of the Mexican people.

What is your proposal story?

The original plan was to meet at Playa Santa Fe. Conie (our photographer) was supposed to arrive at 5:40 and we were supposed to arrive by 5:50. A few days before the proposal I told Conie that my now fiancé was introverted and may feel too nervous if it was around too many people. Conie changed the location to a beach behind a hotel/restaurant called Dos Cheibas. It was more secluded and much less seaweed than my original location. As Jackie and I walked down the beach I took a selfie with Jackie. Then Conie passed by and I asked her to take a picture of us with our iPhone. She did and then offered to take pictures with her camera. She made it so easy and distracted my fiancée as I got down on one knee. She helped us through the photo shoot since we were nervous. It was a great experience!

Best tip for proposing in Tulum

Trust and communicate with your concierge and photographer. It’s easier than you think it’ll be! And yes, you will still be nervous. And don’t arrive before your photographer. I did by accident but it all still worked out.

Collin's Proposal Story in Tulum

What is your love story?

We met in college in an engineering class TA session. She asked for my number so we could 'study' later, and we ended up being a perfect match! I knew she was the one after we went on many adventures together, and moved in together.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

I chose the cenote in Tulum because of the calming effect of the still water, and I wanted to move locations to the beach for wider landscape shots that showed the beautiful beaches of Tulum.

What is your proposal story?

The day of the proposal was really busy! We visited ruins in Coba in the morning, went snorkeling in another cenote in the middle of the day, and ended up making it to Cenote Cristalino for the proposal moment right on time, dressed in our nicest clothes from the trip. I still caught her by surprise, even though she may have suspected something was different. I love that her eyes were watering with tears of joy before I could even pull the ring out of my pocket. I loved our special moment, and how well it was caught on camera. It was in a nice private area which we both always wanted for our proposal moment, and I'm so glad everything went according to plan. I'm thankful for my friends help in planning the ideas, and for Flytographers help in realizing the dream proposal!

Sunny's Proposal Story in Tulum

What is your love story?

Maritza and I had been dating for nearly 7 years and we've been in love from the very beginning! I knew that I wanted to marry her after we finally started living together over the past 7 months. Things were just clicking. We were bringing out the best in each other and life was just more fun. Realized why wait any longer? Made it happen!

What made you choose this proposal destination?

We just happen to plan a trip to Tulum, Mexico with another couple. The timing to receive the ring prior to the trip and book a photographer on location just worked out! I always imagined it to be in some place tropical with lots of natural beauty. It was truly a dream come true!

What is your proposal story?

Started off the day of the proposal having slept in with some mimosas and breakfast at our resort. This was followed by an on the fly spa session for some manicures and pedicures! They did not have any availability but I was able to convince the receptionist to squeeze us in immediately by pointing at my finger and telling her that I'm proposing today! The sweet lady pulled out her walkie talkies and started making some calls. The next thing you know, I'm getting my feet scrubbed while Maritza is getting her nails beautified! Phew. That worked out just in time! As we wrap up at the spa it is about 1PM, the surprise photo shoot is at 3:30PM, and our resort is a 30 min cab ride from the photo shoot location. As we step out of the spa, our friends that are traveling with us meet up with us. The goal at this point was to get everyone cleaned up for the photo shoot. My buddy Gabe and his lady, Michelle, suggest to our group that we all get ready (shower, hair done, makeup done, dressed nice, THE WORKS!) for a special event with a photo shoot at a hotel down the street. They look at us for some feedback and I quickly agree with the plan, but Maritza HATES the idea. She doesn't feel like getting ready or leaving the resort. She whines about the heat and how she doesn't feel like leaving the resort and would rather just swim in the pool all day long with some cocktails. Fair enough. But there was something so large at stake here! It was quite the challenge convincing her into getting fancy for our shoot, but I was able to gently sway the situation and convince her to get ready. I was cool all along, but man that was a close one. I was so worried I would have to ruin the surprise by showing her the ring in the hotel. Thank god she was ready by 3PM! We walked to the lobby and Gabe had a cab ready for us. Once we sat in the cab the ring box was bulging from my left pocket but luckily Maritza didn't notice. She wasn't paying much attention to me as she was not too thrilled to be leaving the resort in the first place! As we arrived at the hotel, our photographer, Claudia, was waiting on a large rock near the ocean and we walked up to her. Gabe told us that she was going to take pictures for us so we introduced ourself and started off with one group pic. Claudia then offered to take individual couple pictures so Maritza handed her bag and sun glasses over to our friends. This was finally my moment! I looked into her eyes and told her that I loved her and wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. As I reached into my pocket to pull out the ring and get on one knee, and ask her to marry me, I felt all of Maritza's displeasure of having to leave the resort turn into pure happiness, joy, and emotions of love. She responded with an I'll marry you followed with some sweet hugs and kisses. The rest of the photo shoot was a dream come true with perfect weather, beautiful location, and amazing photographer who guided us along the way! We enjoyed the rest of our stay in Tulum and are now happily engaged! Happy to be back home in San Francisco, Bay Area to share the joyous news with all our friends and family!

Kenneth's Proposal Story in Tulum

What is your love story?

Tatiana and I met in April of 2014, she used to work at the gym which I would visit frequently to work out at. I normally work out with a friend and on one morning I saw Tatiana working and immediately turned to my friend and asked, "who is that?". I just had to find a way to talk to her because I thought she was the most beautiful woman ever. It took me a bit to actually talk to her as I did not want to randomly interrupt during her work hours. As the days went on, me and the same friend would continue to work out and visit the gym and sure enough there was Tatiana working. The funny thing is, every time I would see Tatiana I would look at my friend and tell him, "I am going to marry her one day", of course we would laugh about it as I had not actually talked to Tatiana at this point. Fast forward a couple weeks and on a Saturday evening Tatiana and I just happened to be at the same party through some mutual friendships (it was her bosses roommate's birthday party, who I am also friends with). I immediately thought to myself, "this is my chance!". As the night went on, we all chit chatted, partied, etc. and I saw Tatiana holding up her friend as she did a keg stand lol I offered to take a picture of them and they gladly accepted. The night came to an end but I now had a reason to approach Tatiana and ask for her number (I have this picture of her and her friend). The following week, I was so excited to go work out haha. The routine continued, me and the same friend went to the gym but I now had plan for when I see Tatiana. When we arrived to the gym I saw Tatiana working and immediately felt the butterflies in my stomach, you could say I was a bit nervous haha but my friend encouraged me to approach her so I did. I approached her, we chit chatted about the party, laughed at a couple moments, and thats when I brought out my secret weapon lol I told her I had this picture of her and her friend from the party and if she would like me to send it to her. She said yes! All was going as planned. I sent her the picture and we said our goodbyes shortly after as she had to get back to work. From that moment on, we continued to exchange text messages, we met for breakfasts, lunches, dinners, hung out, and I simply could not stop wanting to see her. As time went on, I loved spending time with Tatiana and did not want it to end so on August 8th 2014 I asked Tatiana to be my girlfriend. Every day I fell more and more in love with Tatiana and I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her when the simplest things would bring such joy to life. From simple good morning text messages, little notes left for the other to find, being lazy and watching movies at home, and our work days coming to an end and hearing how each others went. To bigger things like traveling the world together, enjoying a night out, my friends turning into our friends, my family turning into our family, the list is endless. I sat back and thought to myself I don’t ever want to lose any of these moments big or small in life spent with Tatiana that bring me such joy and love, so on August 18, 2018 I asked her to marry me and she said yes!!

What made you choose this proposal destination?

Tatiana and I both love to travel. We live in California and like most have taken small trips to San Francisco, San Diego, Yosemite and of course Las Vegas. We have also visited some places in Mexico like Puerto Vallarta, Merida, Cancun, and Isla Holbox. Lastly some places we have visited around the world include Medellin, Bogota, Munich, Prague, Rome, Florence, Madrid, Ibiza, Shanghai, Beijing, Xian, and Guilin. As you can probably tell we take trips often and this year was a bit different. We were both so busy with work that we had not planned out any vacations so we decided that for my birthday we would take a trip. We wanted to go somewhere we can easily enjoy in a week, could relax, and take our minds off of the busy year thus far. We have wanted to visit Tulum in the past but never really made the effort to go and have been nearby multiple times. So this time around we decided we would change that and visit Tulum! Flights were booked that same day, and before you knew it we were on our way. By now we had both discussed marriage and I knew I wanted to propose to Tatiana but was never sure on how or where. So I figured what better place to do it than on vacation and with a perfect disguise like my birthday trip to keep it a surprise!

What is your proposal story?

Nerve-racking! But truly felt like everything was meant to be from the outfits we wore to the location of the shoot. I won't go into detail with the outfits but trust me when I say they were meant to be! lol. In regards to the location, that was also meant to be. Our shoot was originally scheduled for the day of my birthday to disguise the surprise proposal but that did not go as planned. Trying to keep it a secret from Tatiana was tougher than anticipated. She first asked if we could take professional photos in Tulum since we have zero nice photos from all of the vacations we have taken in the past, but I turned the idea down saying, "it'll be too expensive or too hard to find a photographer" with her not knowing our surprise photoshoot was already planned out. She then asked if she could plan out my birthday for me but I also turned that down and said I was thinking of maybe spending the day at an all inclusive resort for the day to relax, with her not knowing I had already planned out a dinner for that night to propose lol. After putting some thought into it, the idea came to mind that if Tatiana knew about the photoshoot it will run much smoother. Conie our photographer will not have to hide, Tatiana will be dressed and ready for the photos, etc. So I decided that for our anniversary gift I will surprise her with a "photoshoot" and I did just that. Since I now did not have to disguise the proposal with my birthday and with the help of Liss and Conie we rescheduled the shoot for 8/18/18 since Tatiana and I have always enjoyed numbers playing out nicely. The day of the shoot Tatiana and I rode bikes to the original location that morning and did not like what we saw. Tulum at the moment is having a very bad seaweed problem and the beach at the location was COVERED in it!! We were so bummed, but Tatiana and I thought maybe we can change the location or if worse comes to worse we will make the best of it. I quickly contacted Conie and we narrowed down a couple places that were recommended to us that should not be so bad with the seaweed issue. We picked a spot but it had some risks. First, they charge to get in, and if you are shooting photos there is a $100 fee but we figured what if they don't see us? Second, they close at 6 and our shoot was scheduled for 5 but we decided that should be enough time. Even though there were a couple risks we decided a location with no to little seaweed will outweigh the risks and decided this will be the new location. So 5 pm comes along and we meet at the entrance of the location and sure enough the guard did not want to let us in!! He mentioned they do not allow guests into the beach club an hour within closing, but a bit of sweet talking, little white lies and shortly after he let us through. Thank god!! We finally arrived at the beach and walked a little bit off path to get to the final location and it was everything we were looking for and more!! It was so perfect, we wanted a mix of beach with some greenery and we got just that. All the work was definitely worth it and meant to be. We began taking some photos and I was so nervous!! I tried to be as natural as possible but I truly was just waiting for Conie to give me my "cue" which was turning us back to back for an artsy photo and the anticipation was killing me. She finally gave me my "cue" and I immediately looked at her to make sure that was it and sure enough she smiled and gave me a thumbs up! At that moment I got on one knee, and Conie had Tatiana turn back around to me on my knee and ring in hand. From there everything was so perfect, I gave my speech, Tatiana said yes, and we continued with our photoshoot as a newly engaged couple!!
