Gregory & Mia's Proposal Story in Sydney

How did you meet?

School

What is your love story?

We met in High-school, but started dating in College. We're from New Orleans in the USA. I knew Mia was the one when she would unconditionally go out of her way for me. She always keeps my spirits up and understands me.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

This was Mia's first time traveling internationally and I wanted to make sure she had a beautiful memory to last forever. None of our friends and family have been to Sydney, so I knew a picture with the Opera House in the background would be incredibly unique and picturesque.

What is your proposal story?

I told Mia that we were going to take nice pictures in front of the Opera House and to dress nicely. I'm pretty sure this gave it away. She's very perceptive, but I think she enjoyed the anticipation. We walked out onto the pier and I'll never forget looking up at the smile on her face.

Best tip for proposing in Sydney

Make sure you Uber or drive to your destination. Towards the end of the photoshoot we were very hot and sweaty. I'm glad we knocked out our pictures while we were still fresh and nice.

Thomas's Proposal Story in Sydney

What is your love story?

On June 5th, 2015 we locked eyes at an outdoor art show in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Conversation ensued and our love for travel and adventure intrigued us to get to know each other better. The meeting was serendipitous as we are from different parts of Canada. Shannon had just moved to Winnipeg, where I grew up, to work as a journalist. It was clear early on we shared many of the same values and our connection grew quickly. I knew Shannon was the one after hearing about her goals, dreams, and adventurous life living in different parts of the world. Shannon knew I was the one because even though she never had the desire to cook before, she found herself inspired to spend hours making us healthy, delicious meals for our weekend dates. After incredible trips to Greece, Spain, and living together in our apartment for over a year our bond was stronger than ever going into our third anniversary.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

My fiancée Shannon had dreamed of travelling to Australia since she was young and it worked out that our three year anniversary would be during our vacation in Sydney, Australia. I wanted to propose to to Shannon on our three year anniversary and knew if I did it in Australia I would be able to include Shannon's favourite things, a beautiful beach and the ocean.

What is your proposal story?

I told Shannon I planned a date where we would go to the beach then have dinner at an elegant harbourfront restaurant in Sydney. We arrived at Congwong Beach in the late afternoon to find it perfectly secluded. We walked along the beach and after stopping to take a selfie, a cute little dog with a peculiar collar ran up to us. Shannon adores dogs, so she was quite interested to pet the dog and read his collar, which said, "Hey Shannon, Tom has a really big question for you." She was absolutely surprised when I then got down on one knee to express my love, present her engagement ring, and ask for her hand in marriage. After many tears of joy, hugs, and kisses she said yes!!!! She later told me the proposal was her dream come true, as it had everything she loves: a dog, a beautiful beach and the ocean. I was so grateful for our flytographers Sarah and Stephen who helped me plan, execute, and capture this dream proposal. We will cherish their photos for the rest of our lives.
