What is your love story?

Our love developed slowly, as we became friends bartending together before we pursued anything romantic. Once we started dating, it was clear to me that Kara's kindness, patience, and selflessness set her apart as not just someone I wanted to date, but as a partner for the remainder of our lives. She makes me laugh, gives me the confidence to push myself to do the best I can for us and our pups, and supports me in achieving my personal and professional goals.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

A group of our friends, Kara, and myself had planned a big joint vacation to St. Maarten to celebrate a friend's 30th birthday - which is a convenient excuse to go on a vacation together! I wanted our proposal to take place in a situation where we would immediately be able to celebrate with a big group of those closest to us, and this trip seemed like the perfect opportunity! As we met in a beach town in North Carolina, a beach proposal seemed like the best way to honor our beginnings as we embarked on the next chapter.

What is your proposal story?

I decided to use "vacation photos" as the cover story, so all my friends, Kara, and myself got dressed up and went to the location that Shannon, our photographer, suggested. It was a beautiful, largely undeveloped, beach that exceeded my expectations. Shannon played her part perfectly, even taking some group shots to further the illusion that we were just there to take pictures, not for a proposal. Shannon said it was time for the "couples photos," and made sure that myself and Kara went first. Once Shannon got us in the right position - down by the clear blue water on the white sand beach - she gave me the signal to pop down on one knee and propose! After that, I was so nervous that it was all a blur, but what was clear was that Kara was completely surprised.

What is your love story?

I had just moved to a new city(austin) and tried to get out and meet new people! My first few weeks were a little difficult on the dating scene but then one patio bar hinge date from heaven walked into my life. Tall, beautiful, smart, and despite her smarts found me funny. Meeting my friends and family was a blast, always a joy to be around and always full of love and care. We moved in together and got a puppy. Seeing her care for and love on a little pup of ours sealed the deal. It was time to buy that ring!

What made you choose this proposal destination?

We move around a lot for our work, so a first date location, or city we met in was more difficult to plan. BUT we had a trip to the US virgin islands planned. Thanks to Flytographer and our amazing photographer named Shannon, we made an island beach side surprise proposal happen!

What is your proposal story?

We woke up early and packed for our day at the beach. Mixed in with my weak knees and heavy arms, I had the ring in a shoulder bag ready to go. With messages back and fourth between our photographer, we aligned and discussed final placements. The moment came, and some final nervousness melted away as I caught sight of the photographer in position. Took the knee, a big breath, and the rock on her finger should clue you into the rest of the story. Our photographer stayed with us after the surprise and planned some truly spectacular photos, using the landscape and the area around us to make a memorable moment unforgettable. 48 -72 hours later, we had a fantastic photo album sent to us digitally and we’re thrilled beyond words.

Best tip for proposing in Saint Martin

The pier was a great backdrop on “great bay” but if you have more time, maybe some additional photo spots can be planned.
