Colin & Emma's Proposal Story in Quebec City

How did you meet?

School

What is your love story?

I knew Emma was the one on our very first date. We wound up at a restaurant for hours until closing because we just couldn't stop talking to one another. The next morning, we both had asked the other if we'd be able to see each other again that day. Since then, we've always been each other's side and every day I can feel the love we have for each other.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

I chose Quebec City because we already had a planned vacation there with my parents the weekend before Christmas. I was able to have Emma's parents there as well with a good bit of additional travel, but it was doable and they wouldn't have missed it for the world. Quebec City around Christmas time is magical and I couldn't have thought of a better location for our picture perfect proposal. Being able to then celebrate in such an incredible and historic city for the remainder of our vacation made it all the better.

What is your proposal story?

Emma, my parents and I drove into QC earlier that day and had just arrived at our hotel when I let Emma know (lied) that my parents wanted to take us out to a nice dinner shortly. That prompted her to make sure her hair and makeup were done, as well as dress up a bit but match the cold weather we were having. Once ready, I said I had wanted to go for a short walk before dinner since we had just been in the car for a couple hours (timing worked out perfectly for our starting shoot time). We then walked over to the location Lara and I had agreed to. Once there, I waited for a gap in the crowd before taking a selfie with Emma in a section of the Christmas market (this was my cue to Lara that I was about to propose). I then took Emma's hands and began to propose to her. Getting down on one knee as I took out the ring while Lara was getting her shots. We then introduced ourselves after Emma had said yes and got started with our booked shoot. Later into the shoot, we had revealed that Emma's parents were there as well by revealing them standing behind the Christmas tree with my parents at Place Royale.

Best tip for proposing in Quebec City

I'm a planner and can't suggest enough that a proposal like this could use some time to plan. I had reached out to Lara and got to work ~2 months in advance to make sure I had everything ironed out the way I wanted it. It likely isn't necessary, but it's a weight off your chest to make sure that the photography is all set the way you envision with plenty of wiggle room for alterations if need be. I also suggest keeping an eye on timing (time of year) and location within Quebec City. I likely chose one of the busiest times and places out of the year in terms of people density. So be sure to keep your SO in mind when planning something in QC. If having a crowd around you while proposing doesn't seem like a good idea, make sure to plan around that. People around also makes it more difficult to get the right shot sometimes as well as making it from location to location of you have multiple planned for your shoot. The weather! It was cold cold cold when we were there so be sure you and your SO are dressed appropriately no matter the season.

Billy's Proposal Story in Quebec City

What is your love story?

I met my fiance in middle school, but we did not starting dating until college. From our first date, I knew she was going to be the one. We have been dating for 5 years and been through a lot together, and as the years have past and we have grown into young professional, we have grown closer and closer. Our experiences have established deep respect and adoration for each other, and there is no one I would rather have by my side through life.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

The Chateau is an absolutely beautiful location, and we wanted to go somewhere different for our vacation. I knew from the start I was going to propose there, but my fiance had no idea so the fact we were able to capture the surprise and happiness of the moment in such a remarkable location was amazing.

What is your proposal story?

The proposal was magical to say the least, but the weather was quite cold and windy. We were getting ready to go to a nice restaurant and as we finished I suggested going outside for a few pictures in front of the hotel. She was rather upset on going outside because of the cold and wind, but I was able to convince her to just take a few good photos. Little did she know, our photographer was waiting for us as a "friendly bystander".

Jared's Proposal Story in Quebec City

What is your love story?

We had been together for just over 5 years when we went to Quebec. My fiancé is absolutely amazing. She is so fun and loving, I couldn’t imagine my life without her! After 5 years I knew she was the one!

What made you choose this proposal destination?

The unique, historic city looks absolutely beautiful decorated for Christmas.

What is your proposal story?

I proposed at the Pierre-Dugua-De-Mons Terrace, which has an amazing view of the city and the Chateau Frontenac. I had dinner reservations scheduled after our shoot to get my fiancé to dress up, but told her I wanted to take pictures at the terrace. Little did she know I would be proposing! Francis met us up there where he pretended to be a friendly tourist who offered to take some pictures for us. When we were in a good position it was my cue to propose. Everything went smoothly and Francis captured so many beautiful pictures!

Justin's Proposal Story in Quebec City

What is your love story?

John and I met online. Yes! We are an online dating success story. On our first date, we went bowling, which turned into 3 games (we each won one but he edged me out on the third game) and then a game of air hockey followed by Mexican food. I didn't want the night to end. As we got serious, I was ready for him to be my boyfriend, but he needed a bit more time. The joke goes that he need two more weeks because sure enough he introduced me as his boyfriend at a party two weeks after that conversation. John is my person, my best friend and my partner in crime and there’s no one else I want to share this adventure with.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

Quebec City is one of the most romantic cities in the world! We had been talking about going to Canada during our annual summer vacation to visit John's family in Maine. This year, it worked out! I knew this was the perfect time/place to do it as it coincided with our 5th anniversary.

What is your proposal story?

I told John that we had a 6:45pm dinner reservation for our 5th anniversary at Il Matto in Quebec City. Beforehand, I told him that I had read about this amazing view of the Chateau Frontenac and that we should head up there to snap a potential Christmas card photo. The day was hot and the walk ended up being much further than we thought. By the time we got to the spot, he was hot, ready to snap a selfie and call an uber, but when my tone changed he said Oh. My. God. The chateau in the background, a not-so-random photographer and my change in demeanor clicked. What I said is a bit of a blur; hopefully I got out all of the romantic things I intended to say! I got down on one knee and he enthusiastically said yes. He had no idea a proposal was in the works for this trip. We spent the next hour taking photos around the old city and talking about all the planning and backstory. We went to dinner - our actual reservation was at 8:30 - and then topped off the evening with champagne and dessert at the Chateau and Face-timing family and friends. It was a magical night that we will cherish forever.
