La Perla del Barocco
Sicilian architecture | Noto, Italy
There's no wonder why Noto is known as "La Perla del Barocco." The city boasts some of the finest examples of the so-called Sicilian Baroque — all within walking distance of each other. Enter the old town through Porta Reale Arch and stroll the lively Corso Vittorio Emanuele, where you'll find most landmarks. Make your way to Noto's Cathedral to admire its Corinthian columns and imposing dome. The extravagant Palazzo Ducezio, Noto's town hall, sits right opposite the church with its Versailles-inspired facade. Longer tours (90 minutes or more) can also include some of the other churches and palazzos in the area.
