Ray's Travel Tips for Madrid

What are the best places to eat and drink in Madrid?

Make sure you dine in at Teatro Real. The spaces at the opera are not public, you get access with an opera ticket. Get your ticket and before the first act, reserve your table for the intermission. You will get an absolute treat at the opera if you can make this happen. You will be chaperoned through the wonderful salons of the opera, I believe I went through the Felipe V and Carlos III rooms to arrive at the ballroom space, the appetizers and champagne waiting. This is an absolute treat, a dining experience with a select few, elite group of locals.

What are the best things to do in Madrid?

There are may landmarks but if I have to name a favourite that would be the Las Ventas Bullring.

What is the best tip for solo travel in Madrid?

Taylor's Travel Tips for Madrid

What are the best places to eat and drink in Madrid?

Rosi La Loca. Fun themed restaurant/bar with great drinks and even better food!!! Friendly staff. Instagram worthy photos in all areas of the restaurant.

What are the best things to do in Madrid?

San Miguel Market was a great way to try different foods in small bites. Walking around the La Latina area was a great way to take in the atmosphere of Madrid without all of the tourist distractions. The area has plenty of hidden gardens with great views of the royal palace and the city and you have the area almost to yourself since its off the beaten path. However, still close to metro/bus stations so it is easy to get to if you are not within walking distance.

What is the best tip for solo travel in Madrid?

Try all the food!! The smaller the restaurant or bar the better!! Get a metro card that works for both bus/train in Zone A. It will get you most anywhere you want to go and it is very inexpensive!

Jana's Travel Tips for Madrid

What are the best things to do in Madrid?

I love contemporary art so for me the highlight was visiting a few contemporary art galleries - Galeria Lacometa, Galería Elvira González, Heinrich Ehrhardt, and Juana de Aizpuru. Cool locations, not too far from one another, interesting spaces and a great way to work some art into your schedule without having to stand in long lines to the Prado and Reina Sofia museums.

What is the best tip for celebrating your birthday in Madrid?

Tapas, tapas, tapas :) Also, be nice to yourself and stay at a nice hotel. I really loved the ambiance and the caring staff of Hotel Totem. Oh - and don't book an early morning shoot in Malasana the day after Real Madrid beats Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League :)
