Joanna's Travel Tips for London

What are the best places to eat and drink in London?

A bit outside the typical tourist spots, but easily reachable by bus, is Mercato Metropolitano. We absolutely loved it! The variety of food stalls is fantastic, offering everything from fresh seafood to vegan dishes. What made it even better was the relaxed atmosphere—so different from the crowded markets in central London. There were no long queues, and plenty of space to sit and enjoy our food without feeling rushed. It’s the perfect spot if you want a more laid-back experience with amazing food choices.

What are the best things to do in London?

We loved the Uber Boat by Thames Clippers! We boarded at Millbank Millennium Pier and cruised to North Greenwich, seeing almost all of London's major attractions along the river—all for under £10. Afterward, we took an incredible Jack the Ripper tour, which gave us fascinating insights into the history of that time. We were so intrigued that we ended up watching some of the recommended movies afterward. It was an unforgettable experience!

What is the best tip for a friends' getaway in London?

My biggest tip for a friends' getaway in London is to take it easy and not stress about seeing everything. London is massive, and it’s more fun to plan by area and soak in the vibe instead of rushing around. Pick a few spots each day and leave time for random discoveries—you never know what hidden gems you’ll find! Plus, planning a trip with friends can be tricky, so having a photographer to capture those fun moments together is such a great idea. It takes the pressure off and makes sure you go home with beautiful memories to look back on.

Nicole's Travel Tips for London

What are the best places to eat and drink in London?

One of our favorite restaurants in London was The Mayfair Chippy. The fish and chips were the best we've ever had. The sometimes long wait is well worth it. Another of our favorite restaurants in London was Gymkhana. In 2024, Gymkhana was awarded Two Michelin stars for its classic Indian cuisine, after its first star in 2014. The Tandoori Chicken was amazing as was the service and ambience.

What are the best things to do in London?

One of our favorite experiences in London was the Warner Bros London Studio Tour. As an avid Harry Potter fan, getting to walk the sets where the movies were filmed was such a great experience. If you go, try to go for the first booking of the day as the crowds will only increase as the day goes on. Another thing we enjoyed was the West End production of Les Miserables. It was such a wonderfully done production - the acting, singing, the sets. Everything was top notch.

What is the best tip for going on your babymoon to London?

Biggest tip for a babymoon is to make sure to plan some down time. London is a very big city with so much to see and that means a lot of walking. Try to plan some rest time in the afternoon to put your feet up before you adventure out for the evening. And bring an umbrella! You never know when the rain will appear.

What are the best places to eat and drink in London?

Victoria House Coffee & food was great. The questions gets very long so definitely make a booking ahead of time. The food was well worth the wait though.

What are the best things to do in London?

Covent Garden was by far one of my favorite places to walk around and allow the kids to freely roam. The street performer was great as well. There are so many options for food and beverages as well as shopping. The Transportation museum was a hit with the kiddos and is right near the market.

What is the best tip for travelling with kids to London?

Use the public transportation! My kids loved the bus (and its free under 12) and the black taxi's. We sat at the top front row of the buses and they just loved not only the view but pretending to drive the bus and pick up passengers. The taxi's were fun and very spacious, they seat up to 6 people which was plenty for our family, very roomy.

Lowell's Travel Tips for London

What are the best places to eat and drink in London?

Afternoon tea at Claridge’s was an absolutely amazing experience, offering the perfect blend of elegance, tradition, and indulgence. From the moment we stepped into the stunning Art Deco surroundings, we were transported into a world of luxury and refinement. The service was impeccable—attentive, yet unobtrusive—making us feel truly pampered throughout the entire experience. The tea selection was extensive, featuring some of the finest blends from around the world, perfectly brewed to bring out their unique flavors. The tiered trays of finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones, and exquisite pastries were not only a feast for the eyes but a delight for the palate. Each bite was a perfect balance of flavors, textures, and sheer artistry. The scones, served warm with clotted cream and homemade jam, were simply divine—a highlight of the experience. What made the afternoon truly special was the attention to detail, from the beautiful table settings to the live piano music softly playing in the background. It was more than just a meal; it was an experience that felt timeless, steeped in British tradition, yet perfectly modern in its execution. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply indulging in a luxurious afternoon, tea at Claridge’s is an unforgettable experience that leaves you feeling cherished and thoroughly satisfied.

What are the best things to do in London?

The Churchill War Rooms are a hidden gem that offers a fascinating and immersive glimpse into a pivotal moment in history. Tucked away beneath the streets of London, this historic site is where Winston Churchill and his team strategized during World War II, and stepping inside feels like traveling back in time. The preserved underground bunker is an atmospheric maze of rooms, each filled with original artifacts, maps, and personal items that bring the wartime experience to life. What makes the Churchill War Rooms truly special is the intimate connection you feel with history. The rooms are exactly as they were left at the end of the war, with personal touches like Churchill’s cigar and half-finished tea cups still in place. The audio guide provides rich, detailed stories and insights that make the history tangible, allowing you to imagine the tense and critical decisions made in those very spaces. Unlike many other tourist attractions, the Churchill War Rooms offer a quieter, more reflective experience, where you can take your time absorbing the incredible history around you. It’s a place that not everyone thinks to visit, but once you do, you realize it’s one of London’s most remarkable and evocative historical sites—a true hidden gem that leaves a lasting impression.

What is the best tip for travelling with kids to London?

When planning a trip to London, one insider tip that can make all the difference is to book everything early. London is a bustling city with endless attractions, and popular sites, restaurants, and experiences can fill up fast. By securing your reservations in advance, you not only guarantee your spot but often get better rates and more options. This is especially true for high-demand activities like afternoon tea at iconic venues or tickets to must-see attractions like the Warner Bros. Studio Tour. If you’re traveling with older kids, it’s important to be prepared for an additional splurge: a second hotel room. Many hotels in London have strict occupancy limits, and finding a room that comfortably accommodates older children or teens can be challenging. Booking a second room might be the best solution for everyone’s comfort, and while it’s an extra expense, it’s well worth it for the space and peace of mind it provides. Plus, some hotels offer discounts or connecting rooms for families, so it’s worth inquiring when making your reservation. By planning ahead and considering these tips, you’ll ensure a smoother, more enjoyable experience in one of the world’s most vibrant cities.

What are the best places to eat and drink in London?

We really enjoyed the Fox and Pheasant in Chelsea. Great environment, amazing food, great service.

What are the best things to do in London?

The tube/bus system is great to get anywhere in the city. Some of the favorite experiences were getting lost in the many neighborhoods, the amount of parks, especially the ones with playgrounds for our kids, the markets. Leadenhall and Covent Garden were our favorite. Camden and Borough were great too, but not to be fully enjoyed with kids who only eat mac'n cheese.

What is the best tip for travelling with kids to London?

Know where the playgrounds are for a quick break to let a kid be a kid.

Allison's Travel Tips for London

What are the best places to eat and drink in London?

We had superb dining experiences at Paternoster Chophouse near St Paul's, Giraffe near Victoria Station, and The Warwick in Pimlico. Service, menu, and atmosphere made all three of these places stand out to us! The Laughing Halibut was a fun, small fish and chips spot that "hit the spot" in the middle of our busiest day!

What are the best things to do in London?

The Globe and Tower of London were highlights for our girls (12 and 9). We also enjoyed riding the Tube to get around town!

What is the best tip for travelling with kids to London?

My best tip would be to build in time to rest. We had one really, really busy day and the other days of our trip we tried to manage our activity level to help the kids not be too tired or over stimulated. We also learned about London before we went which helped them be invested in our "bucket list" of activities in the city. We found it to be a great international trip for our family!
