We loved getting an iced coffee and cascara at Stow to Go, it was near our hotel, the barista was so knowledgeable and our drinks were really wonderful.
Going up to the top of the castle using the funicular, and getting the view from the viewing tower. Walking near the river and through the streets in the city center.
There are a lot of parks and fountains round the town center our child loved playing in. The river boat tour was also a favorite
There are so many wonderful cafes and restaurants in Ljubljana. We loved the Slovenian House and Divine for breakfast - the fresh eggs and bread, local cheese and prosciutto, and yummy cappuccinos. We enjoyed Restaurant Julija for a traditional Slovenian meal and wine and Balthazar's for great cocktails and seafood. Also, Kratochwill had great beer and food. We visited Cacao multiple times for gelato.
Castle Ljubljana is a must see for adults and kids alike. We took the funicular to the top, explored the grounds, had lunch there, and walked down. It was so interesting that our 10 year old asked to go back a second time. Recommend taking a guided boat tour for another view of the beautiful bridges and city and also great opportunity to hear the rich history of the city. Our family loved spending time in Preseren Square, Central Market, and visiting the various churches.
Ljubljana is incredibly safe and very easy place to travel with kids. Spar is an excellent grocery store for snacks and pre-made lunches too. Cafes and restaurants are quite amenable to make adaptions for children's meals and the Central Market is a great place to pick up fresh fruit, local snacks. Our kids loved the House of Illusions and Atlantis water park too.
Cacao was our favorite ice cream in Slovenia. Top notch. And their chai latte was also fantastic.
Ljubljana castle was our favorite part of the city. The kids loved the funicular ride.
The kids loved the morning market with crafters. Our teen daughter bought some great locally made jewelry, and the artists were all so kind and friendly.
I loved Cafetino for coffee. It was delicious. The gelato at Gelateria Romantika was absolutely fabulous as well.

Wander! There's so many beautiful little nooks and crannies in Ljubljana. Grab a beer and some traditional Slovenian meats and cheeses from Sloveska Hisa in old town, sit outside and watch the city go by. You can't go wrong with a dinner at Gostilna Na Gradu at the castle either! After dark, wander around the Triple Bridge and Preseren Square...Ljubljana at night is simply charming.
Ljubljana has a hilltop castle that can be seen from all around the city! Definitely take the cute little funicular to the top and visit the museum within, but do so at the end of the day. There is a tower that you will have access to, and the 360 degree view of mountains in vibrant pink and orange light at sunset is pure magic!
Wake up early and take in the sights and sounds of Ljubljana without all of the crowds! It's truly breathtaking. Also, a food tour with Ljubljananjam is a must - but don't eat beforehand, you will come away so full!
Stay close to the centre. Location is everything. Make sure to meet some locals and ask for tips. The food tour is a great one!
We stayed at Hotel Piran and loved the seaside room and breakfast views. We ate at Verdi (fresh prawns Madera-style) and Delphin (awesome fried & grilled calamari). We swam in the ocean (clear, cool, & relaxing). We stumbled onto a performance of Romeo & Juliet: The Ballet in Tartini Square while looking for gelato. We were only here for a day before stopping back in Ljubljana but the trip was so worth it.
Ljubljana is a magical place for Christmas...highly recommend it!
