Lindsey's Travel Tips for Lisbon

What are the best places to eat and drink in Lisbon?

Our absolute favorite was Solar Da Madalena, where we devoured the best bifana sandwiches in the city! To top it off, we recommend ordering a Sagres beer or their cider, which was absolutely out of this world and paired perfectly with the meal. We also had a fantastic experience at O Bitoque, a neighborhood restaurant away from the touristy areas. Their Bitoque (Portuguese steak dish) was phenomenal, and their Caldo Verde (a traditional Portuguese kale soup) was rich and comforting. It felt like a true local spot that gave us a taste of authentic Lisbon.

What are the best things to do in Lisbon?

Our trip to Lisbon was packed with unforgettable moments, and some of the best experiences came from exploring outside the city and soaking in its beauty. One of the highlights was our day tour with Keep It Local to Sintra, where we explored Quinta da Regaleira. It was an absolute dream, with its enchanting gardens, secret tunnels, and the breathtaking Initiation Well. If you're visiting Lisbon, this mystical place is a must-see for sure! In Lisbon itself, we fell in love with the sunsets at the city's miradouros (viewpoints). Our favorites were Miradouro da Senhora do Monte and Miradouro São Pedro de Alcântara. Both offered stunning panoramic views of the city, with the sunset casting a golden glow over the iconic red rooftops and the river. These peaceful moments, watching Lisbon from above, were some of the most memorable parts of our trip! Sintra’s charm and Lisbon’s sunsets are experiences we’d recommend to anyone visiting the city.

What is your best travel tip for Lisbon?

My best travel tip for Lisbon? Get lost in the streets! Lisbon is one of those cities where wandering off the beaten path pays off big time. Whether it's stumbling upon hidden viewpoints (Miradouros), charming alleyways, or hole-in-the-wall cafes, there's magic around every corner. And definitely take a food tour — we did one and found amazing spots like Solar Da Madalena for bifanas we’d never have discovered on our own. Just make sure to wear comfy shoes because those hills are no joke!

Justine's Travel Tips for Lisbon

What are the best places to eat and drink in Lisbon?

Many multiple favourite restaurants, bars, and cafes in Lisbon! It is definitely challenging to choose just one. For restaurants - Damas had a hipster vibe with the menu written on the wall; Cosmo for open fire cuisine, great gilled octopus and meats with cool, dark interiors; Adega Dom Luis for the ultimate Portuguese cuisine and experience - can't recommend this gem enough. Bars - Vino Vero was a favourite (stayed at the airbnb right above it) with natural wines and a friendly patio service; Locals & Nomads for natural wine and a bottle shop. For cafes - we loved the most local cafes or Padelarias around!

What are the best things to do in Lisbon?

The area of Graça is most special - the viewpoints Miradouro da Graça and Miradoura da Nossa Senhora do Monte were so special. A lot of hills required to get to these places, especially going north but absolutely worth it! Vila Berta is a beautiful area to get lost in the streetart and florals and tiles.

What is the best tip for a romantic getaway in Lisbon?

Go with the flow! Embrace the Portugeuse way of slowing down and smelling the roses - take your time to relax and be present in the moment. Definitely book photoshoots to remember the beautiful corners in Lisbon!
