Higashi Chaya Machi
Timeless Japan | Kanazawa, Japan
Step back in time with a visit to Higashi Chaya District, Kanazawa's biggest teahouse and geisha quarter — a former entertainment area for merchants and samurais. Today, as you walk along stone pathways, you find shrines and teahouses boasting lovely facades and paper lamps. The entire district is lined with old wooden cottages that house everything from tea stores to ateliers. Spring and fall bring an extra special allure, but the area is charming in every season. Note: the best time for photo sessions is in the early morning when Higashi Chaya is at its most peaceful.
