Amy's Travel Tips for Dublin

What are the best places to eat and drink in Dublin?

We also had great food at Quays in Temple Bar. While this was great food, it was definitely more on the touristry side of things. Typical Irish Restaurant that was reserved for tourists. We ate there as my husband is a celiac and they had a great menu and bread for him. Milano's Pizza was ordered in and the food was delish! My son loved the bread dough bites, my daughter the cheese bread, and the gluten free pizza and dough bites were a hit with my husband. I ate all of the above and had no complaints! Cloud 9 Gelato! We eat gelato anytime we can and this adorable pink cafe attracted us twice in one day! You can even get a nip of whiskey here if you prefer that along your gelato.

What are the best things to do in Dublin?

St. Michans Church and Crypt where you can see bodies that have been mummified by the limestone and swamp under the church. Make sure you bring cash! The National Leprechaun Museum was a storytelling experience that blew us away! If you love the stories of Ireland, or are interested in learning more, this is the place. We were worried it was going to be a bit hokey based on the name, but it was definitely in our top experiences for Ireland. The GPO Museum was informative and moving at the same time. The songs of the Easter Rising hit a little different that night in the pub since we had more knowledge of the event. Very well done. Dublinia Museum tells the story of Ireland from pre-historic times, through the Vikings, the Normand Conquest, Tudor era and to present day. Very interactive and fun for kids and adults!

What is the best tip for travelling with kids to Dublin?

Make dinner reservations! We didn't make dinner reservations one evening and couldn't get in anywhere, so we ordered in pizza and had a nice low-key night at the hotel in one of their sitting rooms. It ended up working out perfect since we all needed a little break from the energetic atmosphere! Be prepared to walk, and build in extra time between activities for down time. There is a great gelato spot, Cloud 9, you can find in a few locations. This was always a great afternoon pick me up for the kids when they were tired. Teach them some Irish songs so they can sing along in the pub! We visited the Castle Hotel Pub in Dublin twice and the kids sang, requested songs, and my daughter even danced the Highland Fling for everyone! The stories they are now telling are priceless.
