How did you meet?

We met during pride in Washington, DC on Pennsylvania Avenue.

What is your love story?

When I broke my foot and Ilan's apartment flooded, we were forced to cohabitate after only two months of dating. After surviving that at such an early stage, we knew anything was possible.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

Ilan was there on an exhcange-type program and I couldn't pass up the opportunity in such a beautiful city.

What is your proposal story?

I told Ilan that we were taking Sunday to do touristy things in Budapest. Little did he know that I'd spent the day before alone hiking all of the tourist spots in town to find the perfect proposal spot. When we did sightseeing on Sunday, I had to see all of the same sights over again and pretend I hadn't. In order to get him to the location of the proposal without arousing suspicions, I told him we were touring an old church and then going to a fancy dinner. After getting off the bus at the wrong bus stop, we had to hike up the mountainside. While it was a beautiful day, I was sweating from the nerves of the proposal and Ilan was wondering why I was acting so strange. When we finally got to the proposal spot, we met our photographer who had the best story. The photographer said he had about 10 minutes before his clients showed up and wanted to get some sample shots if we were interested. The photographer offered to put my cell phone in his backpack so it wouldnt stick out of my pocket. To which I agreed, of course. But Ilan thought something was strange as I'd never agree to something like that but went along with it anyway. After getting to the location spot, we'd been asked to stand back to back. After fumbling around trying to get the ring out of my jacket pocket, I finally was ready to propose. Ilan almost turned around before I was ready because I was so nervous I couldn't get the ring out. When I was finally on one knee, Ilan turned around and to his great surprise, I asked him to marry me!

Best tip for proposing in Budapest

If you're going to do the proposal in a top tourist location, just know it might be busy. Our proposal was on the Sunday before Mother's Day and we got lucky that it wasn't very busy!

What is your love story?

We met almost a decade ago; we’re high school sweethearts who found our way back to each other after many years. He’s brilliant and handsome and kind; we say the same thing at the same time way too often. He’s always been the person who makes me laugh the hardest and inspires me to be better. It seemed like the most natural thing in the world to spend our lives together.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

Budapest was a new place for both of us, and photos I’d seen of the vantage from the Fisherman’s Bastion in the morning light were stunning. I wanted a place that had grandeur and scale but could still be private for the big moment.

What is your proposal story?

He was suspicious of the need to wake up so early, so I don’t think it was a total surprise! When I got down on one knee, the look on his face was something I’ll never forget. Everything I’d planned to say went out the window when I saw that face, and I just spoke from the heart (though neither of us remembers what I actually said). It was the special moment I’d imagined, and with Flytographer and Meli it was seamless.

What is your love story?

We met at work and on the first day I saw her I thought, “oh boy, she’s gonna be trouble”. After becoming best friends and then dating shortly after, I knew that she was the one for me. I never believed in love at first sight, but you find the best when you least expect it.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

This was my girlfriend’s dream vacation and she has been wanting to come here for years. The castle backdrop was the perfect setting for my Disney-loving bride-to-be!

What is your proposal story?

We talked about taking nice pictures here for months so when I suggested we do so, she wasn’t surprised at all. When we got to the venue there were other photographers there taking pictures. I asked a random person (actuallly our photographer, Meli!) to take a picture using my phone. She then suggested to take one on her camera and that she would send it our way. After a few pics, I got down on one knee and asked my love to spend the rest of her life with me. She said Yes!!!
