How did you meet?

Hinge

What is your love story?

Coincidentally, we both knew on our first date. We met on Hinge but our first date was at an outdoor restaurant / bar called The Dock - it’s along Montrose Beach in Chicago. We talked for 6 hours straight and even closed the place down! Subsequently, we spent another hour walking to Carley’s car because she parked miles away for some reason HAHA. We continued to see each other exclusively for another month but had a falling out - we both believe we weren’t ready for the intensity of our feelings yet. This was all foreign to us and each of us had our breaths taken away by one another. Fast forward 7 months later to February 2022, we reconnected and have spent almost every day since continually falling much more in love with another. We now have a place together and two dogs named Doja & Roxy who are just as equally obsessed with each other - just like their owners :)

What made you choose this proposal destination?

We had this European vacation planned and I (Jason) didn’t want to be too cliche and do it at our first stop which was Paris. I also didn’t want the stress and pressure of doing it in our last destination which was Amsterdam. After looking up some other cities in Belgium, I found Bruge (initially) to be our style. But Mariska found an even better location in Ghent - which I knew instantly this is the place forsure!

What is your proposal story?

I was stressed out to the seams - not because I was unsure of my partner’s (Carley) answer but I wanted everything to be perfect and special for her. From the weather to the outfits to the logistics. This will be the only time each of us get engaged and I needed it to be so memorable. She deserves the world and I wanted to give it to her.

Best tip for proposing in Bruges

We actually did Ghent but we visited Bruges the night before and there’s so many romantic places to do it. If you’re in Ghent, I highly recommend St Bavos Abbey if you want some privacy because the town center can be very busy.
