What is your love story?

Because she challenges me, she is my best friend. And I think she will be a great mom.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

I knew it would be the most special place to celebrate the most special moment of our lives (yet!)

What is your proposal story?

We spent the day doing all the things we love doing together - having leisurely breakfast, working out, shopping, playing our favorite songs, then I told her we would grab a drink on the rooftop for sunset - little did she know, there was a big surprise in store!

Best tip for proposing in Bali

Be prepared for the weather: it’s hot and weather apps are unpredictable. We found out a few days later that a rain priest had blessed the skies for an unrelated private event at the hotel. It worked!

Carl's Proposal Story in Bali

What is your love story?

It’s funny because we met with all the odds stacked against us. It was at a party that we both went to on a Saturday night, but Lucy was supposed to be on placement as a student nurse and I was supposed to be in work! If you believe that everything happens for a reason then our story is for you. We both had a million other things to do but where both drawn to this place. Apparently the first thing Lucy noticed was my shoes! I’ve kept them to this day. I noticed her a long time before I plucked up the courage to go over and speak to her, but when I got the chance I knew I had to take it. She gave me her number and I was eager to organise our first date. We met up a week later, she was nervous, I was nervous but we hit it off and from there started our crazy adventure. It hasn’t always been easy but our love has grown over time and I genuinely love her more and more every single day. Despite adventuring and seeing amazing parts of the world from far and wide, some of our best memories are simply sat down with a cup of tea or being silly at home. I know she is the one because nobody else knows me the way that she does. We love each other despite our faults and we laugh at life rather than take it too seriously.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

I chose this destination because it’s one of a kind in Bali. It’s a white sand beach (which she loves) and it’s facing Australia (our favourite place in the world where we want to live one day). I wanted to pick a place that represented everything that she is and our hopes for the future.

What is your proposal story?

I was really nervous, stressing that we needed to be at the beach for 4.30 because that’s when it will look best. I had nothing to back up this claim! We were late of course and we got a driver that weaved in and out of traffic like crazy, this made Lucy feel sick. I said it will be worth it. When we got there we walked down, strolling along the beach. My heart was racing as I seen our photographer in the distance. ‘How do I get her up there without being the most suspicious person in the world’ I thought to myself. We eventually got up to the spot where Jimie (our photographer) had placed a letter from me to her. ‘What is that?’ I said. She picked it up, it read her name. She was confused to say the least but opened the letter anyway. I went down on one knee, tapping her for what seemed like forever. She turned around crying from the letter and then seemed to double up crying which made me cry! It was a beautiful moment. And then of course she said yes!
