1. Rome in November

Late fallā€” November šŸ in particularā€” is a fantastic time to visit Italy! Although autumn weather can be less predictable, the milder temperatures, off-season crowds, shorter lines, and markedly lower prices are a welcome respite for travellers wanting to slow down and enjoy the historic beauty Rome has to offer.

Average temperatures in November range between 7-18Ā°C (45-65Ā°F), and in addition to cooler temps, be prepared for rain šŸŒ§ November is one of the rainiest months in Rome; that being said, donā€™t be deterred by rainy days! We think November is a wonderful time for your visit if youā€™re prepared, and itā€™s absolutely worth walking the damp and dreamy Roman streets.Ā Ā

Packing tips! To be best prepared for your trip to Rome in November, remember to pack comfortable walking shoes, layers, and weather-appropriate gear šŸŒ‚ should you get stuck in inclement weather (weā€™ll keep our fingers crossed for you for ample sunny days though!). We love the idea of bringing button downs tops, cardigans, a great jacket or trench, Italian-inspired scarves, and comfortable boots! šŸ‘¢Ā

2. Best places to take photos in Rome

For the best places to take photos in Rome, first and foremost, we recommend taking pics in these iconic locations early in the day, in fact, one of the best travel tips for great photos in Rome is to get there before the crowds, even in November. ā°

  • The Roman Forum – in the heart of Rome, the Roman Forum shows off some of the most striking and iconic backdrops in all of Europe.
  • The Pantheon & streets of Rome – for your very own time travel through history, flanked by preserved Roman landscapes and newer gems, we love photos at the Pantheon and on the nearby streets of Rome.
  • Trevi Fountain – a visit to Rome wouldnā€™t be complete without taking a photo as you throw a coin into the beautiful Trevi Fountain!

Weā€™ll talk more about this in a bit, but we highly recommend booking a Flytographer photoshoot for stunning keepsake photos in these (and ample other) Roman destinations (plus extra hidden gems you may not even know about thanks to our professional Flytographer photographers)! ā£ļø We also recommend reading our Top 10 Places to Take Photos in Rome.

3. Museums & art galleries to visit

We love some outdoor sightseeing, but what about the best museums and art galleries in Rome? Some of our favourite museums and galleries šŸ–¼ include the following:

  • Vatican Museums (including the Sistine Chapel and St. Peterā€™s Basilica) – did you know Vatican City is home to 54 galleries known as the Vatican Museums? The Sistine Chapel and Michelangeloā€™s jaw-dropping works make the Vatican Museums an obvious must-see for anyone and everyone visiting Rome.Ā
  • Borghese Gallery and Museum (also known as Galleria Borghese) is filled with some of the worldā€™s most famous sculptures and paintings and is one of Romeā€™s best art destinations.Ā
  • The Colosseum Museum includes exhibits about the Roman Colosseum’s history, construction, and uses as well as artifacts and statues, and is located on the second floor of the Colosseum.
  • The Capitoline Museums are a group of art and archaeological museums set on top of the Capitoline Hill in Rome.Ā

Remember one of the best reasons for travel to Rome in November is to enjoy Romeā€™s best locations with fewer crowds, and youā€™ll likely look past the possible inclement weather as youā€™re strolling inside these museums and galleries with more ease- trust us!

4. Cafes & restaurants

Did anyone say, ā€œGelato?ā€ šŸØ Yes? Yes. We heard it…

Cozying up in one of Romeā€™s restaurants or cafes (also known as bars) is romantic, and charming, and you’re likely going to be served some of the most delicious Italian food in the world. Feeling overwhelmed about where to begin when it comes to food? What about booking a Rome food tour? Even if guided tours arenā€™t your jam, this may be the city to choose a food tour! šŸ Rome has so much to offer, so let your hunger direct you.

For those not wanting to miss a moment, Piazza Navona is a great place for scenery (fountains! Architecture!), as well as being an awesome people-watching spot to sit and dine while you enjoy every minute of your time in Rome.Ā

Now, letā€™s get back to gelato for a momentā€” the 135 Spanish Steps are a perfect precursor to some fabulous gelato! Although you may not need to cool off in November like you would in the summer months, gelato is the perfect reward for all that climbing!Ā

5. Seasonal events & activities

All Saintsā€™ Day is a national holiday and celebration on November 1st. Although government offices and schools may be closed, many businesses catering to visitors are still open- be sure to check with the locations you want to visit, should you be in Rome over the first of the month.

If youā€™re visiting Rome at the end of the month, consider yourself lucky! Late November means the start of many holiday markets. šŸŽ„ The Piazza Navona Christmas Market is the most well-known of these markets and for good reason! Holiday markets feature giant Christmas trees, treats, warm drinks, handmade gifts, chestnuts, performers and singers, and oftentimes carousel rides, too! šŸŽ

Be sure to check out what Rome has to offer during the dates youā€™ll be visiting for amazing seasonal events and activities that will make your trip even more special.Ā

6. Day trips

If youā€™re in Rome for an extended time or are looking for something to do outside the main city, may we suggest a day trip? šŸš—

  • Tivoli (Villa d’Este and Hadrian’s Villa) – Tivoli is less than an hour from the heart of Rome, and the trip can be made with or without a guided tour, by train, bus, or car.
  • Orvieto – a couple hours outside of Rome is Orvieto- a beautiful, small town perched on a cliff, and an A+ day trip from the ancient city.
  • Tuscany – booking a day trip from Rome to Tuscany may be a perfect way to break up a longer visit to Rome and give you another glimpse of what Italy has to offer.

7. Book a Flytographer photoshoot

Saving our personal favourite tip for last: capture your time in ancient Rome with a Flytographer photo shoot! šŸ“· Booking a photoshoot is the perfect way to immortalize the Eternal City, because letā€™s be honest, although Rome is aging pretty darn well, we should all freeze our time there with professional pictures (I mean, this goes too, for Venice, Florence, the Amalfi Coast…).

Weā€™re excited to tell you about our new Flytographer feature, too: Instant Book!Ā  Instant Book means you can book a photo shoot immediately without having to wait for confirmation from a photographer. Your start time and the route are set by the photographer, so you get the best shoot… instantly! šŸ«°
