Memories are truly magic… or at least, we believe they are! ✨ What else has the power to transport you back to your most special moments through something as simple as a song, a smell, or – of course – a photograph? We are simply honoured to have captured over 1 million photos in 2023 all over the world. At the end of every year, our Flytographer HQ team handpicks some of the most heartwarming stories of the year to share with you! 💕 How they met
“Rachel and I met through a mutual friend we both had. One night, my friend invited us out to a bar and told me Rachel was going to be there. A few weeks later, I asked her out and we decided to get sushi and watch a movie together. During our sushi dinner, I knew she was the one because she immediately said ‘’I can’t use chopsticks for this. Let’s use our hands.’’ And we both immediately dropped our chopsticks and sighed in relief. 5 years later and here we are!” — Sandip
💍 Proposal story
“Rachel had noooo idea this was going to happen. Our friends and I told her that we had a special lunch planned at the hotel at Lake Louise and to dress up really nice. I planned with Darine to meet us at Lake Louise. When we got there it was so cold, icy and snowy and Rachel was starting to get skeptical. We started to walk around, take pictures and then pretend to take a group picture. When we did, Darine interrupted us and said ‘’can I take your picture with my camera, I’d love to add it to my growing portfolio?’’ Darine took it and that’s where I asked Rachel.
Darine exceeded all of our expectations! During the photo shoot, she was attentive, kind and very detail oriented. She made both of us so comfortable and we laughed throughout the entire shoot, capturing our relationship perfectly.” — Sandip

💕 Proposal story
“Christina and I planned a road trip for March 2023 through Colorado, Utah, and Arizona. Being from New York, we were excited to take a break from the busy city and explore nature in a new part of the country. Little did Christina know, I planned to propose halfway through our road trip at Horseshoe Bend. I worked with Amanda from Flytographer to curate the ideal location. Amanda was extremely knowledgeable about Horseshoe Bend and was able to get the perfect shot of the proposal. Since our families weren’t able to take the trip with us, it was important that the photographs could capture the emotion of our special moment. Our loved ones were blown away. I only get to propose to Christina once, but looking back at the photos has us reliving the proposal over and over again.” – Justin

💍 Proposal moment
“Just told her we were going to Kihei for a nice dinner, but would check out some local beaches (hadn’t had a chance yet with other things we had scheduled so far). Ensured she was looking her best (as she would want) her nails and hair were done before the trip of course with some help from friends. I worked it out with Rojeena, our photographer, to be ahead of us on the beach taking photos of scenery and when Cadence and I arrived she was ready. We walked along the beach and took photos and talked before I gave Rojeena the signal that I was going to ask. Took some photos of Cadence by herself with the backdrop of the ocean and told her we had to take a couple more since the first few were blurry… when she turned back around I had dropped to one knee. The rest is history.” – David

“I pretty much try to book a shoot any time I’m in a new location with my son. When I look back on these photos, I feel a lot of gratitude. This is partly because, you know, at his age, he’s changing so quickly, and so I don’t think I can document that enough. But also this is really the memory that I want the most from our trips. You know, in the past, it would be shopping for different things or whatever. but now I just really want a great set of photos with my family. If I’m going to a new city, I always check and see what the Flytographer options are there and try to book something if it’s possible. “Among all the places we will be visiting, I chose Porto because it had the prettiest photos in the website gallery featuring the Dom Luis Bridge along the Douro River. Ivo made it very easy to warm up to him, keeping us comfortable by telling us precisely where to walk, where to look, and what we should be doing. He even carried my husband’s screaming red backpack because it won’t look nice in the photos. Ivo was very efficient, fast, and alert. He warned us of the minor details that may hamper the shoot, like tripping along the stone staircase, slipping from muddied earth, or falling on the river. He even recommended foods and local watering holes while in Porto. Nothing can compare with snapshots of the memories my loved ones and I created while in Porto. What a perfect way to ensure my husband, daughter, and I will be in the photo without relying on a selfie stick. I also thought this would be a great gift to capture memories spent in a city’s most scenic places.” – Lora
🐟 Porto food tour
“Can there be a better way to know a city, its people, and its culture, than through a culinary food tour? We met Marlene of Blue Dragon Tours at the C’alma Specialty Coffee Room. The first stop was the meeting place, C’alma coffee room, where we had Colombian coffee and pastel de nata. The next stop was the busiest commercial street in Porto called Rua Sta. Catarina. At Confeitaria Império, we were served the local pasteis de bacalhau and vinho verde (green white wine). These are made from green grapes that have not reached maturity. This worked so well with our codfish cakes. As they say in Portuguese, “Saúde!!” For another authentic Portuguese charcuterie experience, Quejaria Amaral served their in-house sheep cheese, goat cheese, smoky chorizo, and prosciutto with pumpkin jam. Paired with Gravuras do Côa, this deserves another toast to life!! Finally, our last stop was the newly re-opened Mercado do Bolhão, a must-see public market in the city center where you’ll find fresh fish, meat, fruits, veggies, and flowers, not to mention a sampling of the famous liquor Porto is known for, port wines.” – Lora

An unexpected father & son trip | Lisbon, Portugal
✈️ Travel story (from Mom’s perspective)
“We had planned over a year prior for our whole family to visit Lisbon for spring break. The night before our departure, I was entering in our passport information and my passport was not valid. I needed three months before my passport expired and my passport expired in two months. I cried. We had everything planned, and now everything was ruined! We decided that my husband and my oldest son who is 10 should still go. My husband and son had a trip of a lifetime, that they will forever remember just the two of them. It makes it even more special that we were able to get these photos of them together since, they would not have had many photos of the trip since it was just the two of them.
When I look back at these photos, it is a reminder that some times, plans change. And that living in the moment and making special memories is the most important in life. Life is so short and being able to have these moments captured, we can have forever. Even though I wasn’t there, I can see the love they had there. I love that they were able to have this special father/son trip, one that they probably would never had planned if it was just the two of them.” – Joanne

World-travelling family returns to Southeast Asia | Hoi An, Vietnam

“We have traveled the world as a family of four and this was our second visit to Vietnam. This time around we wanted to visit a historic and charming town of Hoi An. We loved the influence of French culture on this small town and enjoyed sightseeing while riding our bicycles through the vibrant streets and eating delicious Bahn Mi sandwiches (French baguette with yummy Vietnamese food). Colourful lanterns are everywhere and it’s such a perfect location for capturing our family story, one of diversity and splash of colours in every way. The beauty of this town is on every corner and our photographer was amazing with guiding us through the town (and poses!) and capturing the essence of who we are.” – Danica

Flower filled fairytale in the tulip fields | Amsterdam, Netherlands
🌷 Travel story
“Every other Indian movie in the late 90s and early 00s would feature some song sequence in the tulip fields and wind mills of the Netherlands. My dream to visit this beautiful place began back then too, but it always felt so far away given I was just a child. Fast forward a little over two decades and my husband and I decided to make my longstanding dream a reality and began planning an entire trip centered around me being able to see the tulips in full bloom. The wait was worth it and it was one of the most beautiful things we’ve ever seen.
Once we booked our tickets, we knew we wanted to memorialize our visit in a way that reminded us of the Indian movies from my childhood and so we booked a shoot with Flytographer. We love looking back at these pictures, it makes us feel like we’re right back in the fields of Keukenhof where every way you turned was a brand new breathtaking view of the Netherlands.” – Saranya

“I was interested in choosing Bayu because I love the way he captures natural light in his pictures. The pictures were gorgeous, I was very happy with the outcome. For the best places to eat in Rome, we loved Castro Protorio! The food was wonderful and people were so nice. Also the Brassai! Excellent food and great service. Our best travel tip for travelling to Rome with friends would be to hop on a tour bus to really get the feel of the city and to see some of the other highlights such as Trevi Fountain, Castel Sant’Angelo, the Colosseum, and of course St. Peter’s Square.
