1. Piazza dei Signori

Piazza dei Signori is a historic square located in the heart of Verona. With a rich history dating back to the Roman era, the square has served as a vibrant hub for social and cultural activities for centuries—and is one of the liveliest areas in Verona to this day. ✨

Piazza dei Signori is a great place to marvel at impressive architecture, with beautiful Renaissance buildings bordering the square, including the Palazzo della Ragione, an impressive medieval building with a red and white striped brick facade. Beside it is the medieval tower, Torre dei Lamberti, which offers panoramic views of Verona.

And at the centre of the square is the iconic marble statue of Cangrande I della Scala, a prominent medieval ruler of Verona. The statue adds grandeur to the square and is a fabulous backdrop for photos! 📸

Not only is Piazza dei Signori beautiful to look at, but it has a wonderfully magnetic energy. It is home to cozy cafés, some of the best restaurants in Verona, and plenty of outdoor seating—all coming together to create a lovely atmosphere perfect for soaking in the vibrancy of Verona.

🌍 Travel tip: A quick walk from the square, you’ll find Juliet’s House, a 13th-century Gothic-style house said to have inspired Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet—complete with a second-story balcony, dubbed Juliet’s balcony.

2. Ponte Pietra & Arena di Verona

Verona has a rich history, evident at the ancient sites of Ponte Pietra and the Arena di Verona. What’s the best way to catch a glimpse into this history? Leisurely wander along the Ponte Pietra through downtown Verona to the Arena di Verona. Even better if you take a walking tour to learn historical facts about the area from a local!🚶‍♀️

Ponte Pietra—meaning stone bridge—is a stunning Roman bridge that spans the Adige River. Constructed in the 1st century BC, its elegant arches and stone pillars have persevered through time, making it a remarkable testament to Roman engineering. 🏛️

While the architecture is awe-inspiring, you’ll also marvel at the incredible landscape! One of the best places to take photos in Verona, Ponte Pietra offers breathtaking views of Verona’s cityscape and the sparkling Adige waters below. Visit at sunset for a stunning view of the city bathed in a golden glow. 🌇

A 15-minute walk from Ponte Pietra is Arena di Verona —or the Roman Amphitheatre—a magnificent and well-preserved structure dating back to the 1st century AD.

Originally used for gladiators and other public spectacles, it now serves as a venue for live performances, such as the annual Verona Arena Opera Festival. 🎭

With its circular shape, rows of stone seats, and a towering outer wall, the amphitheatre is truly a spectacular sight. Exploring its corridors and witnessing a performance within its ancient walls is an unforgettable experience—don’t skip this one!

3. Castel San Pietro

Castel San Pietro is a picturesque fortress perched on a hill overlooking the city. The castle holds significant historical and architectural value and offers panoramic views of Verona and the surrounding Veneto landscape. 🏰

Originally constructed in the 10th century, Castel San Pietro’s strategic position on top of a hill made it the ideal defensive structure. The castle’s purpose was to protect the city and its inhabitants, acting as a lookout. Visitors can explore the remnants of the fortifications, walk along the stone walls, and enjoy the serene ambience of the surrounding park. 🌳

The climb to the top of the hill is rewarded with breathtaking views of Verona’s historic centre, including the Arena di Verona. Terracotta-hued rooftops, towering cypress trees, and winding waters of the Adige River create a postcard-perfect scene. 😍 Naturally, that means this is one of the best places to take photos in Verona.

4. Piazza Bra, Castelvecchio, and the Historic Arsenale

Piazza Bra is one of the largest, most famous squares in Verona. It has a long history dating back to Roman times and is surrounded by impressive historic buildings and landmarks, including Arena di Verona. The square is adorned with elegant cafés, restaurants, and shops, making it a fabulous place to enjoy a glass of Amarone wine—local to the Veneto wine region of Italy—and watch the world go by. 🍷

Castelvecchio—meaning old castle—is a medieval fortress along the Adige River. Built in the 14th century, it was originally the residence of Verona’s ruling family. Today, Castelvecchio houses a museum that showcases a vast collection of art, sculptures, and medieval artifacts. 🖼️

The Historic Arsenale—also known as Arsenale Veneto—is a former shipyard located in Verona. ⚓ The Arsenale is an architectural gem featuring a central courtyard surrounded by arches and columns. Today, it is used as an exhibition space for art shows, cultural events, and conferences.

All three of these incredible landmarks are within a ten-minute walk. After exploring the Arena di Verona, take a stroll to Castelvecchio to enjoy the museum, then cross over to picture-perfect Ponte di Castelvecchio to Arsenale Veneto—a wonderful way to discover the area!

On the east side of Verona is Giardino Giusti, a stunning Renaissance garden that has captivated visitors for centuries. Designed in the 16th century, the garden is a masterpiece of Italian Renaissance landscaping and is considered one of the finest examples of its kind. 🌳

And it is truly enchanting! The garden is divided into different sections, each with its own unique charm. Strolling along its winding paths, you’ll encounter perfectly manicured hedges, vibrant flowerbeds, and elegant statues. 🌼 The garden’s design also includes terraced levels, ornamental fountains, and a labyrinth. ⛲

One of the highlights of Giardino Giusti is the Belvedere Terrace, which offers breathtaking panoramic views of Verona’s skyline and the surrounding countryside.
