1. East Coast

Boasting dramatic volcanic scenery unique to the islands of Tahiti, Tahiti’s East Coast has plenty of natural beauty for every kind of nature buff to explore. From hiking through lush green scenery and waterfalls at Papenoo Valley to enjoying calm lagoons filled with rich marine life, the East Coast is a go-to place for both relaxation and adventure. The lagoons are not only a stunning background for photos but also perfect for water sports such as snorkelling, paddle boarding and kayaking. 🚣

Want to hit the waves? The black sand beaches of Papenoo, Taapuna and Taharuu are ideal to catch some surfing. 🏄 Needless to say, they also have fantastic scenery if you simply want to relax on the sand and feel the laid-back atmosphere of this part of the island.

2. Fa’aruma’i Waterfalls

Get ready to be amazed by three cascading beauties. Just a 30-minute drive from Papeete, the capital of Tahiti, the three majestic Fa’aruma’i Waterfalls sit in a gorgeous Tahitian forest. 🌳 They are the most popular and accessible waterfalls on the island and three of the best places to take photos in Tahiti.

A short hike cutting through a grove of chestnut trees and beautiful plants and flowers leads you to Vaimahutu, the first waterfall. Another 20 minutes of scenic hiking, and you reach the second and third waterfalls, Haamarere Iti and Haamarere Rahi, both near to one another. Although swimming is not allowed, just the natural beauty and relaxing effect of the crystal-clear waters rushing down majestic rocks will make the visit worth it, and you’ll get stunning backgrounds for the perfect shot. 😉

3. Plage de la Pointe Venus

Famous for its black sands and historic lighthouse, Plage de la Pointe Venus is lined with swaying palm and casuarina trees, all of which make it extra photogenic. 🌴 The lighthouse is the highlight. 💡 Completed in 1867 to celebrate the arrival of English explorer Captain Samuel Wallis, this is the only lighthouse in Tahiti and a very Instagrammable backdrop for photos.

With fantastic waves, the beach is also a superb surfing spot. But if you’re not into surfing, Plage de la Pointe Venus still offers a dreamy and romantic landscape, great for some time with a loved one or with friends and family. 💗

Hot tip: Before you leave the beach, stop at the Fare des Artisans, a craft market with a large selection of stunning souvenirs, such as mother-of-pearl carvings, pareos and shell necklaces, to wear during your photo shoot or to take home. 🐚

4. The Beach House and Lafayette Beach

Located amidst stunning tropical greenery, you’ll find two secluded beaches near Le Tahiti Hotel. What sets them apart from the other beaches? Their unique dark-volcanic sand creates a striking, almost ethereal landscape. Both are just breathtaking and ideal spots to unwind, recharge and simply take in the awe-inspiring views. It’s a good idea to stay long enough at either beach to catch the sunset: you’ll be rewarded with a spectacular display of rich hues of crimson, orange and pink – silhouetted by swaying palm trees. 🌅

For more stunning nature and hotels, head to Moorea, one of the most beautiful islands of French Polynesia, located just a brief ferry ride from Papeete. The island boasts the picturesque Opunohu Valley, which offers spectacular views of Opunohu Bay from the Le Belvedere Lookout Point. Temae Beach is another highlight of Moorea, and that’s where you’ll find the Sofitel Hotel, famous for its incredible overwater bungalows. 👍

5. Vaipahi’s Garden

In Mataiea, along Tahiti Nui’s southern coast, lies a beautiful green paradise filled with ponds, streams and waterfalls. This botanical haven boasts plants and flowers not just from the Pacific Islands but from around the globe, including some exotic species. 🌺 The lily pond and winding streams are popular spots that provide a dreamlike atmosphere. All of this makes it a favourite destination for nature lovers, but there’s more: The garden houses archaeological relics and a plateau with overhanging cliffs and breathtaking views. 😍 To enhance the experience, walking paths snake through shaded areas created by pine trees. In its entirety, this natural wonderland is impeccably maintained and has a peaceful vibe that is well worth checking out while exploring as it is one of the most beautiful places to take photos in Tahiti.
