With sufficient time before your due date, finding a maternity photographer whose style, aesthetic, and overall vibe matches your wishes is the first step. 🥇 All the saved pins and “maternity photoshoot idea” searches won’t be nearly as successful if the photographer you choose has a style that doesn’t match what you want to be captured. It may sound like a no-brainer but look through their portfolio! 👀 Make sure to scroll through not only their maternity photography but also their general work – does their style of photography suit you? What about the backgrounds and settings? What time of day do they highlight the most? What about their editing – do the colour and tones match what you like? The more connected you feel to your photographer’s imagery, the more likely you are to be thrilled with what you create together in your maternity photoshoot. 😎

2. Opt for soft natural light
Our favourite time of day for maternity pics is during the golden hour (aka, morning just after sunrise or evening just before sunset). 🌅 The golden hour glow is always stunning but add a flowy maternity dress and a cute pregnant belly (or two)! Dreamy! There’s something about the combination of a pregnancy glow and the natural glow from Mother Earth that is a match made in heaven. 🌟

3. Show off the baby bumps
If you’re lucky enough to celebrate your pregnancy journey with your BFF, congratulations! Pregnancy is a unique time for not only mama but also other family members! 👩👩👦 Sharing in this season is something to be captured – although those nine months may feel a lot longer to a baby-carrying mama, these days with that little one inside will never happen again. Partners, grandparents, siblings, and others in your village who are excited and ready for your new baby can easily and eagerly be added to your maternity photoshoot. 👏 Capturing a few photos with those important to you makes this occasion wonderful.
